Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine
Sheila Govindarajan returns for her fourth year as a featured contributor to the Integrative Medicine & Cultural Healing Week at the Kaiser Permanente School of Medicine. This year’s program invites medical students to explore diverse approaches to care and healing beyond the conventional biomedical model. The day begins on January 12th with a reflective discussion of The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down, led by Dr. Deepu Gowda, examining culture, ethics, and the challenges of cross-cultural medicine.
The discussion will be followed by a multidisciplinary panel introducing students to traditional and integrative healing modalities in contemporary practice. Panelists include Neelam Pathikonda (Integrative Medicine), Sheila Govindarajan (Ayurvedic Medicine), and Vignette Ching (Chinese Medicine). Together, they will share how their respective systems understand illness, wellness, prevention, and the human experience of healing, encouraging students to consider how cultural knowledge and ancestral lineages of medicine can coexist alongside clinical care in support of whole-person health.

Move Sanctuary
Ojai, CA
Step into the golden light of the Summer Solstice—one of the most powerful portals of the year –– a radiant threshold and turning point in nature’s cycle. Golden Threshold is a two-day Ayurvedic immersion that honors this seasonal shift while offering timeless tools to align with nature’s rhythms all year long.
Rooted in the ancient science of Ritucharya (Ayurveda’s seasonal lifestyle wisdom), this immersion invites you into a deeper understanding of how the five elements—earth, water, fire, air, and ether—manifest in both the environment and within you. Together, we’ll explore how to care for the body, mind, and spirit through Ayurvedic teachings, seasonal rituals, and sensorial practices designed to restore balance and attune you to the natural world. Plus, you’ll tune in and connect with Ayurvedic herbs to craft your own seasonal Urdhwartana dry scrub.
Whether you are new to Ayurveda or returning to it as a remembrance, this gathering offers a place to learn, craft, move, and root into presence. We’ll weave practical wisdom with hands-on creation, collective ritual with individual integration—anchoring ourselves in both the fire of summer and the greater cycles that guide our lives.
